Introduction
The BioNLP Shared Task series represents a community-wide move toward fine-grained information extraction (IE) in biomedical text mining. The BioNLP Shared Task 2013, the third in the series following the 2009 and 2011 events, will be organized from late 2012 to early 2013.
As in 2009 and 2011, task participants will be provided with manually annotated data representing the information extraction targets of various specific extraction tasks (to be announced), and participants are expected to create systems for automatically extracting this information from text. All groups completing at least one task will be invited to present their work in a workshop on the task held in conjunction with BioNLP 2013, and selected papers will be further invited to a special issue on the task (journal to be announced).
